Technology

E-Boost
Unique to Kawasaki’s EV and HEV models, e-boost allows riders to briefly tap into extra power for stronger acceleration and a higher top speed. To prevent battery overheating, e-boost operation is limited (time varies by model). When all conditions have been met, e-boost availability will be shown on the screen via indicator or the e-boost gauge. Pressing the button on the right handle activates the function, increasing power and torque. The e-boost gauge (now purple) counts down the remaining time available. Once the bike is ready again, the e-boost function can be activated once more. e-boost can be activated on-the-fly (while riding) or when stopped.
Electric Power
Kawasaki’s roadgoing EVs are powered by a compact brushless electric motor offering strong off-the-line acceleration and low-end response. Rider-selectable power levels contribute to rider confidence, while unique EV features like e-boost and WALK Mode add to the fun experience. The rider-friendly electric motor is also clean and quiet.
Power Modes
Models equipped with multiple Power Modes offer riders an easily selectable choice of engine power delivery to suit riding conditions or preference. In addition to Full Power mode, one (Low) or two (Middle, Low) alternate mode(s) in which maximum power is limited and throttle response is milder are provided.
Smartphone Connectivity
Clever technology enables riders to connect to their motorcycle wirelessly. Using the smartphone application “RIDEOLOGY THE APP,” a number of instrument functions can be accessed, contributing to an enhanced motorcycling experience. Vehicle information (such as the odometer, fuel gauge, maintenance schedule, etc) can be viewed on the smartphone. Riding logs (varies by model, but may include GPS route, gear position, rpm, and other information) can be viewed on the smartphone. When connected, telephone (call, mail) notices are displayed on the instrument panel. Riders can also make changes to their motorcycle’s instrument display settings (preferred units, clock and date setting, etc) via the smartphone. And on certain models, it is even possible to check and adjust vehicle settings (such as Rider Mode, electronic rider support features, and payload settings) using the smartphone.
Walk Mode (with Reverse)
This convenient mode assists with maneuvering in a parking lot. When engaged, opening the throttle moves the bike forward at walking speed. Closing the throttle past the “zero” point moves the bike in reverse. With the bike stopped and the throttle closed, WALK Mode is activated by pressing and holding the WALK Mode button. Once activated, the screen background turns orange to clearly distinguish from normal operation.
Zero Emissions
Zero-emission-capable models like Kawasaki’s Electric Vehicles (EV)—and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) running in EV Mode—create no emissions when being operated. In addition to being environmentally friendly, zero-emission riding offers the possibility to enter restricted areas where ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles are prohibited.
ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System)
Kawasaki ABS systems use front and rear wheel sensors to constantly monitor wheel speed. Should information from either of the sensors indicate that wheel lock has occurred, the ABS ECU directs the pump in the ABS unit to modulate brake fluid pressure (releasing and reapplying pressure so that traction can be regained) until normal operation resumes. ABS offers rider reassurance that contributes to greater riding enjoyment.
Ergo-Fit
Proper fit is key for rider comfort and control. However, the ideal fit varies from rider to rider, depending on their physical dimensions and riding style. ERGO-FIT® is an interface system designed to allow riders to find their ideal riding position. Various points of the chassis interface (the handlebar, footpegs and seat, etc.) can be adjusted through a combination of interchangeable parts and parts with adjustable positions. This enables a wide range of riders to find a riding position that offers both comfort and control. Feeling at one with their machine, they will be able to experience how Kawasaki machines are fun and rewarding to ride. *Adjustable parts and their range of adjustability vary by model.

  • Powerful e-boost Along with smooth power delivery, riders can enjoy a burst of increased power for approximately 15 seconds at a time with e-boost. When all conditions have been met, the e-boost feature briefly provides stronger acceleration and increased top speed to confidently surge through traffic or quickly accelerate up to speed from a stop.
  • WALK/Reverse Modes The all-new Z e-1 ABS EV motorcycle provides easy parking and low-speed maneuvering with WALK Mode. WALK Mode assists maneuvering when reversing or moving forward at a walking pace. To move forward (3 mph), riders will push the WALK Mode button and twist the throttle in the normal direction. When reversing (1 mph), riders will push the WALK Mode button and close the throttle past the "zero" point.
  • RIDING MODES The all-new Z e-1 ABS EV motorcycle is powered by dual removable battery packs. When both battery packs are charged and in use, the power system can be set to ROAD or ECO mode. ROAD mode produces full power capability and potential to reach max top speed. ECO mode reduces max power and max top speed. If only one battery pack is in use, then performance level defaults to ECO mode.

  • Naturally Relaxed Riding Position A relaxed rider triangle accommodates a wide range of rider sizes and riding situations, contributing to the rider-friendly character. The relatively upright riding position and slightly foot-forward footpegs offer a riding position that is sporty and comfortable.

Battery Packs

  • Easy Recharge Thanks to the regenerative system, the energy of deceleration is recycled back to the battery, contributing to a longer cruising range. Riders have three options when it comes time to charge the two battery packs. The battery packs can be removed to be charged away from the motorcycle, either by direct charge or by a charging dock in a different location, or you can plug the charger directly into the motorcycle in a dry environment via the offboard charging adapter. The offboard charging adapter is pre-installed on the motorcycle as standard equipment. One charger is included with the motorcycle and can be plugged into a standard 120V household outlet.
  • Charging Times Each battery pack features a charge indicator so riders can gauge how much battery life is left. Charging times may vary based on remaining battery life. If battery life is at 0%, it can take up to approximately four hours (per battery) to fully charge. If battery life is above 20%, it can take up to approximately two hours (per battery) to reach a full charge.
  • Ways to Charge The offboard charging adapter allows you to conveniently charge both batteries at the same time without having to remove the batteries. Charging time is up to approximately eight hours (0-100%) for both batteries. The direct charge option involves plugging the included charger directly into a removed battery. Charging time for one battery is up to approximately four hours (for a full charge from 0%). An additional charger can be purchased (as an accessory) so that the second battery can stay in the motorcycle and be charged simultaneously via the offboard charging adapter. Charging time for one battery via the offboard charging adapter is up to approximately four hours (for a full charge from 0%). Additional chargers and charging docks are available as accessory items to help you set up a clutter-free charging station. Charging time via charging dock is equivalent to charging via direct charge.
